Beneath, adaptable CLT structures host markets and vertical factories, promoting urban rewilding.

    The St. Monan’s Salt Institute revitalises historic salt production in Fife, Scotland. Utilising traditional Germanic blackthorn towers, the project offers a low-energy method to concentrate seawater into brine. Situated at Coal Farm, the institute fosters community engagement through blackthorn woodlands and reconnects the Fife coastal trail with the village.

Designed for near 24-hour operation, it features workshops, libraries, classrooms, and lecture halls. The architecture integrates into the urban landscape, with a prominent circular library tower symbolising a new ‘Enlightenment’ for skill development.

    Guildhall Walk Studios is a proposed metal workshop in central Portsmouth. Its red brick façade, inspired by local shipbuilding and naval heritage, features large, hole-punched shapes. The design includes an open atrium to illuminate the basement workshop, which produces art and fulfils local business orders. Above, exhibition spaces and a public café foster community engagement.…
